HN people point to it as a rare chance to watch skilled developers write real code live, pair programming and explaining as they go.
A roughly hour-long live hacking session in which Go team members Andrew Gerrand and Brad Fitzpatrick write the new version of tip.golang.org, the site serving leading-edge Go documentation. It is unedited pair programming on a real Go project.
“It's just something to watch the pros doing live coding.” (HN, 2020)
Would you mind sharing who you watch? I have found a few good ones but feel like there are loads I am missing! Best video I have found to date is [this video] but there are only 2
I also recommend "Hacking with Andrew and Brad: tip.golang.org" [1]. They are part of the Go team. It's just something to watch the pros doing live coding. By the way, what's with antirez's colorscheme? I wonder if he really uses that blue background or is it just for the video. [1] [this video]
If you've never seen anyone work with syntax highlighting off, there are some YouTube videos that inspired me to try coding with syntax highlighting off: 1. "Hacking with Andrew and Brad" - Andrew Gerrand (previously on the Go core team) uses Vim without syntax highlighting.[0] 2. "Advanced Embed With Go Generate - Andy Walker" -- this guy uses bold/italics/few colors in his editor. Interesting visual on how you can use font to show different aspects of the code.[1][2] 3. "Visual Studio Code, No Syntax Coloring, Go Fonts" [3] 4. "stb programming FAQ" - Sean Barrett answers why he uses VC6 and why his syntax highlighting is so minimal.[4] [0]: [this video] [1]: [link] [2]: [link] [3]: [link] [4]: [link]
Example of coding in Vim without syntax highlighting.
