HN commenters point to it as a fun, research-grounded explainer whenever bed bug threads come up.
Mark Rober digs into bed bugs, testing popular beliefs about where they come from and how to get rid of them. It mixes entertaining experiments with research-based advice on what works and what does not.
“mark rober did a good entertaining video on this” (HN, 2024)
I'd imagine the vast majority of most people on HN already watch Mark Rober, never the less- in case you missed it, he did a fun video on bed bugs last month: [this video]
Here is a fun YouTube video about research based eradication of bed bugs [0] Lots of facts like bed bugs don't carry or transmit diseases. [0] [this video]
Research-based bed bug eradication, with facts like no disease transmission.
If you have bedbugs (and if you do then I’m so sorry) then I recommend not using the chemical treatments. These supposedly just scatter them everywhere, causing them to spread. The two treatments that work reliably seem to be: - Whole building heat treatment, but this is the nuclear option as it involves heating the entire building (including cracks and crevices) to 60c - Repeated steam treatments. Superheated steam kills them on contact, but doesn’t scare them away. Any remaining bugs will gravitate towards sleeping areas and can be got by repeating the steam treatment within a 2 week window which is how long their reproduction cycle takes. Source: [link] I did a lot of research on this topic after an unfortunate encounter with bed bugs while travelling, and this was the most reliable source I could find. EDIT: the Mark Rober video linked below ( [this video] ) also contains much of the same advice.
Contains much the same advice on treating bed bugs.
