I'm glad you like it :). I think ambience and soundscapes should still have interesting musical elements. If it only works as background noise, then I get bored by it. I've also listened to Isis quite a lot, mostly "Oceanic", which is great. There is a pretty good remix album of "Oceanic" that opens with a remix by Fennesz. Let me just throw a few more out there: Antenne (two albums, just called #1 and #2): [link] Jóhann Jóhannsson - Englabörn: [link] The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble - Here Be Dragons: [this video] Kreng - Grimoire: [link] La Grande Bellezza - Original Sound Track (sans disco tracks): [link]
Album suggested among ambient and soundscape recommendations.
Made a selection with an eclectic variety of modern electronic sounds, enjoy! - [link] (a gem of prog trance) - [this video] (dark electronic jazz) - [link] (black metal + breakbeat + classical) - [link] (amazing psy chill album) - [link] To illustrate how Electronic Music enables you to achieve a wide range of possibilities I've chosen these 2 songs from the same band: - [link] - [link]
Dark electronic jazz in an eclectic music selection.
Another second here. There's a YouTube channel with full stoner metal albums (Stoned Meadow of Doom: [link] ; been around for quite a while, though I have a vague fear of them disappearing due to the obvious copyright infringement...). As for specific bands (though I don't think on the stoner metal spectrum, but ones I love): Baroness, Sub Rosa, King Woman, Bell Witch, Mastodon. And for something a bit farther off from metal, but still in the spirit of heavy, nearly ambient - The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble ( [this video] ) / The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation (which is apparently the live version of "The Kilimanjaro...").
Heavy, nearly ambient jazz suggested for programming.
