HN cites it as proof that eInk panels can refresh fast and that slow e-readers are mainly a display-controller problem.
A short Bookeen R&D demo showing real-time web page scrolling on an eInk panel, far faster than typical e-readers. It was a prototype for the next generation of Cybook readers.
“they made an impressive demo of the technology[1], showing a really fast display.” (HN, 2011)
The bookeen odyssey[2] looks more interesting as an e-ink tablet. While it isn't out yet(it'll be out in 22/11), they made an impressive demo of the technology[1], showing a really fast display. They also have strong processor(cortex-a8, 800mhz), so web browsing will probably be much nicer and fun than the kindle. [1] [this video] [2] [link]
Yes they are: [link] [this video] The problem with existing e-readers is with the poor programming of the display controller, not with the display itself.
Shows e-ink can scroll fast; slowness is a controller programming issue.
I thought 11 years ago that e-ink with good refresh was achieved, seeing bookeen's prototype display videos and full screen scrolling. [link] [this video] But all e-ink devices I have seen since were slow and would form time to time show remanence.
Prototype showing full-screen e-ink scrolling with good refresh.
