HN posts it as a joke whenever a real smart toilet, IoT gadget or silly startup idea appears, because reality keeps matching the parody.
An Adult Swim infomercial parody for Smart Pipe, a fictional startup that turns toilet waste into data and social connectivity. It satirizes everything-connected tech culture.
“Adult Swim did a critical parody two years ago which still nails the hidden motives of many startups.” (HN, 2017)
It'd be great to be able to pull glucose, hydration and more out of urine samples real time, so long as we stay away from say live telemetry to insurers or something like SmartPipe[1] it'd be enormously beneficial. 1 - [this video]
Parody becomes reality. This is literally Adult Swim's Smart Pipe: [this video] : > Everything in our lives is connected to the internet, so why not our toilets? Take a tour of Smart Pipe, the hot new tech startup that turns your waste into valuable information and fun social connectivity.
Adult Swim's Smart Pipe coming to life. [this video] I actually thought it was a cool idea when I watched that, besides the exaggerated parts for the joke.
Adult Swim made riffed on a similar concept[0] a few years ago, though it seems like some companies never quite took the message to heart... [0] Smart Pipe [this video]
I would contend that Blackstone was of the position that no innocent person who was not of sufficient suspicion of committing a crime should be investigated. These are innocent bystanders. There is nothing suspicious about their activities other than they did something that a suspected criminal did. A perfectly legal activity? To take this to the ridiculous side, are we going to investigate everyone who took a poop at a specific time because a criminal did? [this video]
since this is YC, maybe to understand oral-B's business model which is avante-garde, you could consider this great piece on their main competitor (SmartPipe): [this video]
the use of customer-central water usage data piques my interest. there's a huge market for selling water and waste data to advertisers and other companies interested in consumer data. This is one of my friend's startups, smartpipes, which is a type of smart sewage pipe - these smart washers remind me of smartpipe (which supports dishwasher waste!): [this video]
That is dystopian, but to be fair, this is China. They are literally rolling out facial ID tech to prevent paper thieves. [link] [link] > soon toilets will be photographing your butt to fingerprint your anus, while data brokers sells your poop data Life imitates art: [this video]

Take a tour of Smart Pipe, the hot new tech startup that turns your waste into valuable information and fun social connectivity. [Smart Pipe Inc. is a registered sex offender.]
[this video] for those who haven't seen it yet. edit: also, what the hell, YouTube? they've got this new link shorter at [this video] that they really want you to use, that forces you to use the browser to watch it instead of the app? so weird.
