HN mostly mentions it as an example of an extreme maker project, not as a recommendation.
Stuff Made Here builds a powder-actuated baseball bat designed to hit a ball past Babe Ruth's record distance, with Smarter Every Day contributing. It covers the engineering of the explosive-assisted swing.
I made a baseball bat that uses explosives to add a bunch of energy to your swing and hit a baseball really far. It uses the explosive blanks normally used to shoot nails into concrete (e.g. ramset). It worked way better than I expected, didn't have a kick, and turned out to be just a really neat thing to look at while sipping a frosty beverage. I also made a video about it if you're interested: [this video]
Own video about an explosive-powered baseball bat build.
Fine. It’s easy if the batter has one of these: [this video] And we assume that the motorcycle is already started and warmed up and the base path is paved etc. etc. Also the batter has a gun.
