Years with an HN recommendation, 2007–2026
Recommended whenever the demoscene comes up as a well-made, accessible history and tour of the art form.
Moleman 2 is a feature-length documentary about the demoscene, tracing its rise from 1980s Commodore 64 culture to modern real-time art. It explains the algorithms and creative process behind demos and intros.
“Both are expertly crafted and fun documentaries” (HN, 2022)
Moleman 2 - Demoscene: [this video] Moleman 4 - Longplay (A videogame documentary): [link] Both are expertly crafted and fun documentaries about their titular subculture with a Hungarian twist.
Expertly crafted, fun demoscene documentary with Hungarian twist
If you are interested in today's* state of the demo scene, check out the documentary "Moleman 2 - The Art Of The Algorithms (2012)": [this video] *Granted, it's 5 years old, but still awesome :D!
There is a nice documentary on the history of the demoscene, with some introspection to the creative process behind a demo/intro. It was made by a Hungarian team, who has other interesting documentaries on underground culture. It is also available in English, at: [this video]

Demoscene is such an interesting form of art. If you are interested, watch this documentary: [this video] The 4k (not the resolution) are very impressive.
Documentary on demoscene art including impressive 4k intros
I second this recommendation for Moleman 2 documentary, but the video I found has a different link: [this video] Looks like this version is in English, while the earlier link is in Hungarian, otherwise they appear to be the same film.
