Goes way beyond that... On the NSA/spying... The (mass surveillance) by the NSA and abuse by law enforcement is just more part and parcel of state suppression of dissent against corporate interests. They're worried that the more people are going to wake up and corporate centers like the US and canada may be among those who also awaken. It seems insane to me that we could allow private corporations to buy and sell data that our government would require a warrant or court order to obtain. You're not seeing what is going on behind the scenes... they are all in cahoots the money is just a bonus. You're not seeing what's going down behind the scenes - the spying is for us. Sorry but you've never read marx if you're saying that. Also check what a former national security advisor has to say on the matter. >I don’t say I disagree, really, but you really ought to dial down the nutty-rant factor just a tad. Nothing nutty about it, you just don't know what is going on in the world and what all the spying is about. [link] In his 1970 book Between Two Ages: America's Role in the Technetronic Era, Brzezinski wrote the following. "The technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more controlled society. Such a society would be dominated by an elite, unrestrained by traditional values. Soon it will be possible to assert almost continuous surveillance over every citizen and maintain up-to-date complete files containing even the most personal information about the citizen. These files will be subject to instantaneous retrieval by the authorities." You don't understand what is happening, the elites are at war with all citizens of their respective states because they fear the free flow of information through their society. That is why are collecting everything. Go view the privacy video and skip to 1:02:30 and watch. So hear it from national security advisor of the united states. >The Internet cannot remain free Uhh have you not been paying attention for the last 20 years? We went from ownign our software and devices to not owning them as the tech illiterate masses got internet and smartphones. Google apps, app stores, steam, mmo's... those are all NOT FREE internet. They are not there for your benefit when you have to login and your software is controlled by a remote party, you are monitored and controlled. People in the west seem blind to the fact that they are basically corporate slaves, when a cursory examination of the facts is that they are amongst the most enslaved indoctrinated people in history. The US is a lawless empire and has been it's founding, if you don't think western governments aren't interested in clamping down on the internet further, just view this by former national security advisor of the United states, Zbigniew Brezinski: [this video]
