HN points to it as an example of advanced DIY hardware, specifically a camera using an affordable Kodak CCD sensor with global shutter.
A hobbyist builds a prototype full-frame CCD camera from scratch, with open-source design files and a custom PCB. The video shows the first, still rough prototype.
“I was hoping to see more advanced projects and I found it in this channel.” (HN, 2023)
That's unfortunate, as hackaday feels like that too me versus it's older writing style. I was hoping to see more advanced projects and I found it in this channel. [this video]
Here’s another project using a more affordable full frame kodak ccd with global shutter [link] [link] [this video] Some people like ccd better than cmos for the color range.

I have seen some people work on a Kodak sensor and also Cine Pi's latest work with the IMX585 sensor is really amazing (4K/8K upscaled). The IMX585 sensor is expensive though compared to the HQ Cam IMX477. Here I'm using the Pi Zero 2 here so can't do 4K I believe (data lanes limit or something, also writing to SD card).
